Grondvormen - Dutch Design week 2009

The Dutch Design Week is full of small galleries, pop up events and even temporary restaurants.
By EatDrinkDesign, a restaurant/gallery space I saw these intriguing shapes, designed by Grondvormen, Sander Boeijink, Nienke Sybrandy and Jeroen Wand.

These new series of candle holder are from designer Sander Lucas

Baked - Formafantasma, Dutch Design week 2009

Formafantasma is the design studio of Simone Trimarchi and Andrea Farresin.
During the Dutch Design week these Italian designers presented this lovely collection of accessories for the table.
The objects are made by organic materials such as salt, flour, and coffee, basically what you may find in your kitchen. The designers were inspired by the Sicilian tradition to bake forms as celebration items.

Talent 2009 - Dutch Design Week 2009

A new and vibrating selection of young international talents is made by Li Edelkoort for the second "Talent" exhibition, Design Huis, Museum for Dutch Design.
Here my favorites:

Amaury Poudry - project "Geometrical Expereinces"

Simon Klenell - project "The Bastards have landed"

Karin Viktoria Bjurstrom - project "Cartoon Trompe l'Oeil"

Boukje Vout - project "Untitled"

Ferdinand Hartgers & Malou Verharen - project "Floating Garment"

Michiel Bussien - project "Growing Chair"

Design Academy Eindhoven - Dutch Design Week 2009

Design Academy Eindhoven shows the works of the graduated bachelors and masters students of the last school year. It is an interesting exhibition; many are the projects with an "industrial design" and "functionality" flavors, also the sustainability issue is present. Clearly this generation of designers is aware of what is going on around them, it looks to me they are not aiming any longer to the mass-production neither to the collectors market for their products. These young designers are dealing with social, environmental, wellbeing and communication issues.

In the case of the masters students, there is an extremely deep research beyond their concepts, often combined with science and social values.
I am also very proud of the Italian students, here some of their very interesting projects:

Gionata Gatto - project "Cultural Roots" - Man & Humanity Master

Elena Leurini - project MUTOID - Man & Humanity Master

Andrea Trimarchi &Simone Farresin - project Moulding Tradition - IM Master

then between the bachelors students I particularly loved:

Bas van derVeer - project "A drop of Water"

Mathilde Alders - project Pronkkast / Display wardrobe

Eva Gevaert - project KP107F

Jitske Blom - project "Hide & See"

Katharina Ludwig - project "Hosting Parrasite"

Yoeri Treffers - project "Flowerbomb"

Anna Dove

I have just discovered these beautiful wallpapers and fabrics by english artist Anna Dove.
The patterns are designed to “create a sense of space within a space”. Recently she was commissioned for the Kew Gardens Orangerie wall, I find her work really poetic!
Do not miss her complete collection on her website.
